This week we will continue instruction of our Warm-Up Exercises , focusing on the enhancement of cardiovascular endurance, combined with muscular strength and muscular endurance. Also, we are wrapping up our Basketball (Games) Unit.
We will begin our Health Classes for grades 7 and 8, discussing “Dimensions of Wellness.” Students will need to bring to class a Wellness notebook, pen/pencil and paper.

I would like to Welcome! you to a new school year here at Schilling Farms Middle. This week we will be introducing SFMS Physical Education Policies and Procedures. Students will be given a Policy and Procedure/Health Form handout, which is to be taken home and reviewed with their parent(s), signed and returned. These form(s) must be completed and returned to me before the student can participate next week.
Also, students who pre-ordered their PE Uniform, will be issued their uniform.
All grades are playing full volleyball games this week. Those in 7th and 8th grade who have chosen to walk should make sure they are entering their steps into the online “Log It” program. Study guides will be given out to students who are playing volleyball in every class this week. The written Volleyball test will be taken next week in class.
All grades will continue to play volleyball games. Seventh and eighth grade will continue in tournament play. Students who have opted to walk will do so, logging their steps online in the walking “Log It” program. Sixth grade classes will continue learning the rules and strategy of the game by playing in a small court version of volleyball. As a stress reliever from morning TCAP testing, each grade will have its own grade-level volleyball tournament one day in the afternoon. The winners of each grade level tournament will face off against the Schilling Farms teachers on Friday afternoon.
All grades will be involved in Volleyball game play. Seventh and eighth grade classes will continue their tournament. Those who have chosen to walk will do so, wearing pedometers, and will record their number of steps on the website for each class period.
Sixth graders will discuss the rules of the game as well as the rotation of players that will be used during play. Students will participate in volleyball games, using a half-sized court. The maximum number of players on a team will be set at 7.
This week we will be continuing our Volleyball unit as 7th and 8th grade students begin tournament play. Those students in the 7th and 8th grade who have chosen to walk will do so, wearing pedometers, and will enter their steps into the online program to keep up with the total number of steps they have taken during the unit.
Sixth grade students will learn the underhand serve and will practice serving the ball over the net using the proper form taught in class.
Students who do not dress out or have a note from a doctor will read a Health and Fitness related article and complete a 200 word summary of their reading.
We will be continuing our Volleyball unit. Sixth grade will continue working on the bump pass and will begin practicing the new skill of the week, the set pass. Seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams will be selected and games will begin. Those is seventh and eighth grade who chose to do the walking “Log It” program will walk, wearing pedometers, and record their steps using the online program.
This week we are beginning our unit in Volleyball, with an alternate activity of Walking “Log It.” Sixth grade students will be taught the following skills: bump pass, also known as the forearm pass which is used to pass the ball to a teammate on your side of the court, the set pass which may be used to set up a spike or to pass the ball to a teammate, and the underhand serve used to begin the volley.
Our seventh and eighth grade students will select on of the activities, Volleyball or Walking. Volleyball will select teams so that a schedule can be determined. Walking students will register with our online program, “Log It,” and begin their walking program wearing pedometers.
